Elections Alberta has announced that the number of mail-in ballot requests for the upcoming referendum has surpassed 610,000 as of the latest reports. The deadline for Albertans to request a mail-in ballot is approaching, with applications needed by this Friday at midnight. Voters can return their completed ballots until October 16 at 5 p.m. to ensure they are counted in the referendum results.
This significant number of mail-in ballot applications reflects heightened engagement from the electorate in the forthcoming vote scheduled for October 19. In preparation for a potential large voter turnout, Elections Alberta has also revealed that more than 53,000 applicants have responded to its call for election workers, contributing to filling a gap of 60,000 positions needed for the event. Nearly 30,000 workers have already been hired and trained to facilitate the election processes.
Elections Alberta has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the voting process, stating that all special ballot applications are verified against its voter registration system to exclude any ineligible submissions. Voters must also provide valid identification to cast their vote, helping to uphold the electoral standards set for the referendum.
