Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in various personal devices including e-bikes, e-scooters, smartphones, and laptops, are facing scrutiny due to a significant increase in fire-related incidents across Canada. Fire departments in urban areas such as Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary are raising awareness about the dangers posed by these batteries, which are widely recognized for their convenience but have shown potential risks in recent months. In Vancouver, the Fire Rescue Services reported responding to 20 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries this year, while Toronto Fire Services reported a considerably higher number—82 incidents.
