Concerns over whale entanglements off the coast of British Columbia continue to be raised by marine mammal experts. Paul Cottrell, the marine mammal coordinator with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, indicated that his team has been addressing an average of one to two whale entanglements per week over the past two months. This trend is similar to the circumstances observed during the same period last year, indicating a potentially ongoing issue.
Cottrell also mentioned that alongside responding to entanglements, his team has been performing several necropsies, which are post-mortem examinations conducted on marine mammals that have died.
