From September 14 to 18, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) conducted Exercise PHANTOM LINK at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt. This exercise included more than 40 CAF members and was designed to explore the integration of autonomous and uncrewed technologies into maritime defence practices. As part of the exercise, participants evaluated the applications of these technologies in enhancing the protection of Canada’s harbours.
The use of autonomous systems and uncrewed vehicles is becoming increasingly relevant in military operations as defence strategies evolve to address emerging threats. Exercises like PHANTOM LINK are part of ongoing efforts by the Canadian Armed Forces to maintain and improve national security and defence capabilities in coastal regions. The outcomes and insights gained from this exercise will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of these technologies in real-world scenarios.
This exercise is aligned with the CAF's broader objectives of innovating modern defence techniques that respond to the complexities of contemporary security challenges in maritime environments. The participation of various team members further highlights the collaborative approach of the CAF in developing effective strategies for defence and security within Canadian waters.
