Greenland Resources Inc., a mineral exploration company, has announced significant progress in its efforts to assess the recovery of rare earth elements (REE) and magnesium as by-products from its Malmbjerg ore body. Supported by a non-repayable financial contribution from the government of Canada, this initiative aims to enhance the feasibility of extracting valuable materials from the ore body, alongside saline water processing. In its update, the company revealed that it had successfully processed more than eight tonnes of material as part of this evaluation.
The focus on rare earth elements is particularly relevant given the global demand for these materials, which are essential in various high-technology applications, including clean energy technologies, electronics, and manufacturing. The support from the Canadian government underscores the importance of advancing domestic mining operations and reducing reliance on foreign sources for critical materials. Furthermore, the project is positioned within the context of Canada's broader strategy to secure its supply chains for strategic minerals.
As Greenland Resources continues its work, additional assessments and evaluations will be conducted to understand the full potential of the Malmbjerg project. The company is optimistic about the outcomes and the role these resources could play in contributing to Canada's resource economy and technological advancements.
