Canada Rocket Company (CRC) has unveiled plans for the construction of Canada's first large-scale rocket engine test facility in London, Ontario. This initiative represents a significant $30-million investment aimed at bolstering the country's aerospace capabilities. Named after Jeremy Hansen, the first Canadian astronaut to orbit the moon, the facility is strategically located at the London International Airport and is expected to be operational as part of a long-term program that aims to launch a medium-lift rocket into orbit by 2032.
The development of this facility is projected to create approximately 1,000 jobs and generate over $1 billion in economic investment over the next decade, signifying a substantial boost for the local and national economy. The entire process from startup to the eventual rocket launch is estimated to take around seven years and will involve an expenditure surpassing US$600 million. The investment aligns with broader objectives to enhance Canada's position within the global aerospace market, focusing on technological advancements and increased launch capabilities.
This project has garnered attention from various stakeholders within the aerospace industry, highlighting Canada's growing ambition in the field of space exploration and development. The establishment of this facility is viewed as a pivotal step towards advancing Canada's space program and facilitating future launches while creating local economic opportunities.
